US Patent No. 12,115,240 B2 (Alison Nicole Taylor, Maggie Su, Patricia Brieva, Stephen Matthew Lynch); L’Oréal, Paris, has patented a skin care composition that is comprised of an emulsion including a water phase that includes an active ingredient combination comprising azelaic acid present in a range from about 0.5-5%, at least one hydroquinone derivative present in a range from about 0.5-5%, and niacinamide present in a range from about 0.5-4.0% (all amounts by weight, based on the total weight of the skin care composition); and an oil phase including at least one anionic polymer thickener and at least one fatty compound.

The emulsion is a temperature-stable gel-stabilized emulsion.

The composition is free of monoalcohols, other than hydroxyacetophenone, at concentrations of 0.1% or greater, by weight based on the total weight of the skin care composition. It is also free of: oils at concentrations of 0.1% or greater, other than squalene, isononyl isononanoate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, or combinations thereof; silicones at concentrations of 0.1% or greater; and silicone oils at concentrations of 0.1% or greater.
